THE BRIEF.

Collaborate with Comic Relief and Billy Monger to develop a film treatment around his next Comic Relief Challenge for a 60 minute BBC1 documentary.

THE IDEA.

After his first Comic Relief Challenge in 2021 Billy decided he wanted to attempt something even bigger. He wanted to break the world record for a double-leg amputee at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. We worked with Billy to identify what other, more personal, motivations he had to tell a richer story of this incredible feat.

THE APPROACH.

Over 12 months of filming we followed Billy as he trained to transform himself into an Ironman and have a chance of breaking the world record. With a slim in house production team including our Head of Film directing and producing, we were able to film all the way to Hawaii where we brought in a specialist crew to film the final event itself. We had to balance working with multiple stakeholders with often opposing needs but in the end made a film that raised £1.5m for Comic Relief.
